Engineering sound at stadium scale.

The Brian Lara Cricket Academy is a 15,000-seat competition and training facility in Tarouba, Trinidad & Tobago. Streamline was responsible for designing and delivering the venue's extensive audio system, engineering the infrastructure required to distribute sound across a large-scale sporting environment.

01 / The Challenge

One month to design. 110 days to deliver.

The Delivery Constraint

The RFQ was released in May 2016. Streamline had approximately one month to audit the stadium and develop the system design. After winning the contract, the team faced a strict 110-day deadline covering manufacturing, shipping, customs, installation, testing and commissioning.

And then the system had to be redesigned.

The original approach positioned loudspeakers along the canopy trussing. Lack of catwalk access made that problematic for installation and long-term maintenance, requiring Streamline to redesign the distributed system while maintaining coverage requirements and the original deadline.

Streamline audited the stadium, reviewed the venue conditions and established the technical requirements that would shape the audio-system design.

02 / The Solution

Coverage engineered around the venue.

Rather than treating the stadium as one uniform listening environment, the final system was engineered around the different coverage requirements of spectator, field and interior spaces.

Integrated into the architecture.

The stadium audio system extended beyond the spectator bowl and playing field into the Academy's interior spaces. Streamline integrated ceiling loudspeakers throughout these areas, allowing the wider audio environment to continue through the facility without compromising the architecture.

North and South.
One connected system.

The stadium's North and South stands were connected using two Electro-Voice NETMAX N8000 processors over an OMNEO/Dante network, linked through fibre optic cable and a Cisco managed network.

Complex engineering.
Simple operation.

Behind the scale of the stadium audio system was a control architecture designed to make operation straightforward. North and South could be managed independently, individual areas could be activated according to use, and advanced functions were brought together through touchscreen control.

The stadium was divided into operational zones, allowing individual areas to be activated according to how the facility was being used rather than requiring the entire system to operate as one.

System Monitoring

Advanced system functions could be accessed through touchscreen control, giving operators a practical interface for managing the distributed audio environment across the stadium.

Control / 03 Priority

Emergency Override

Automated override and voice-evacuation functionality were incorporated so priority communication could take precedence across the system when required.

05 / The Result

Delivered on time. 10% below the agreed contract sum.

Published accounts of the installation quote Streamline director Michael Pereira stating that the system was delivered fully operational, on time and 10% below the agreed contract sum, with the coverage, intelligibility, flexibility and ease of use required across the venue.
